Do you service systems you didn't install?
Yes. Most of our repair work is on systems installed by previous contractors who've gone out of business or stopped servicing the building.
What's the typical callout cost?
Standard business-hour callout is $220 (first hour, then $120/hr). Maintenance contract holders pay either nothing (Silver/Gold) or a discounted rate (Bronze).
Can you support legacy 4-wire systems?
Yes, where parts are still available. Some 1990s systems are past economic repair — we'll tell you straight.

Common Brisbane and Gold Coast intercom repair scenarios

After years of apartment-building repair work, we see the same fault patterns repeating. Knowing the failure mode in advance helps strata managers and body corporate committees budget realistically.

Repair scenario 1 — front panel button/keypad failure

Most common in 5-10 year old installs. The buttons or keypad develop intermittent contact issues from UV/heat exposure (Queensland sun is hard on entrance hardware). For Akuvox R29S panels we typically swap the button module from spares inventory. For older Aiphone GT-2H panels, button replacement is increasingly difficult as modules are end-of-life. We give honest "repair vs upgrade" guidance at the diagnosis stage.

Repair scenario 2 — indoor monitor dead in one unit

Typically a PoE injector failure or unit-side cable termination issue. Diagnosed in 30 minutes. Most cases we can repair on-site. If the indoor monitor itself has failed, we carry the Akuvox IT82 in van stock for same-day replacement (for buildings already on Akuvox).

Repair scenario 3 — whole-building system non-responsive

Usually traces to the PoE+ switch in the comms cupboard, NBN outage, or cloud subscription expiry. We diagnose in stages — if it's the cloud subscription, we restore in minutes. If it's the PoE+ switch, we swap from van stock. NBN outages we work around with cellular failover.

Repair scenario 4 — app stops working for residents

Typically Akuvox SmartPlus push notification fails after a phone OS update, or the resident's credential has expired. We resolve remotely via cloud admin in minutes — no site visit needed. This is the most common after-hours call we get; usually a 5-minute fix.

Repair scenario 5 — vandalism damage to entrance panel

Common in street-facing entrances. Akuvox R29S vandal-resistant panel withstands most kicking and prying attempts; older Aiphone GT-2H is more vulnerable. We document for strata insurance claim, install temporary replacement from van stock if available, and source the permanent panel within 5 business days.

Diagnosis vs replacement — decision criteria

We give honest "repair vs upgrade" recommendations based on three factors:

Spare parts inventory and supply chain

For Akuvox installs we maintain Brisbane-side van stock of: R29S front panels, IT82 indoor monitors, PoE+ injectors, lift relay modules, replacement RFID cards. For 2N installs we stock Verso modules. For Aiphone GT/JO/JP we hold remaining replacement parts but cannot source new beyond current inventory.

Aiphone heritage repair specialist

Brisbane has many 15-25 year old apartment buildings still on Aiphone GT-2H or JO-1 systems. We are one of the few installers still actively supporting these heritage systems. We can usually keep your existing Aiphone running for 2-3 more years before forced upgrade, giving the body corporate time to budget for a planned modernisation.

Repair vs strata insurance claim workflow

For vandalism, water damage, or storm damage repairs, we document the fault with photographs and itemised parts/labour invoice ready for strata insurance claim. Most strata insurers accept our documentation without additional inspection. We can liaise directly with the insurer on the body corporate's behalf.
