Aiphone — the legacy standard of Brisbane apartment intercom
If you walk into any Brisbane apartment building constructed between 1995 and 2015, the intercom is probably an Aiphone GT, JO, or JP series unit. The brand is mature, the hardware is durable, and the Australian replacement-parts ecosystem is excellent. Aiphone is the right choice when continuing an existing Aiphone system, but rarely the best choice for fresh installs (where Akuvox or 2N typically deliver better value).

Aiphone GT — apartment building analog standard
The GT series is the analog apartment intercom we replace most often. Discontinued by Aiphone but parts still available through Australian distribution. We service existing GT installs (same-day callouts on broken handsets, door station replacements) and provide IP upgrade pathways to the IX-IXG series for body corporates ready to modernise.
Aiphone JO — residential video intercom
Boutique residential IP video intercom — single-door or two-door configurations, indoor 7" touchscreen monitor. Good fit for Brisbane homes upgrading from older Aiphone GT or DA series. Smartphone app via Aiphone's mobile app integration.
Aiphone JP — premium residential
Premium residential IP intercom with higher build quality than JO, expanded recording memory, advanced visitor management. Suits Hamilton, Sanctuary Cove, and Hope Island residential applications where Aiphone brand continuity matters.
Aiphone IX / IXG — IP-capable apartment platform
Aiphone's modern IP apartment intercom platform. Genuinely competitive with Akuvox at the premium end. Choose this when transitioning a long-standing Aiphone-equipped body-corporate building to full IP without changing brands — resident user experience stays familiar, parts pooling continues, building manager doesn't need to learn a new system.
When to stay with Aiphone vs switch brands
Stay with Aiphone when:
- Your building has been Aiphone for 10+ years and residents/managers know the system
- You're a multi-building strata portfolio with standardised Aiphone parts inventory
- You're replacing a single failed component, not the whole system
- The body corporate has explicitly approved an "Aiphone continuity" upgrade path
Switch to Akuvox or 2N when:
- Fresh install with no existing intercom infrastructure (Akuvox better value)
- You need face recognition at entry (Aiphone doesn't have a credible product line)
- You need 2-wire IP retrofit (Akuvox R20A-2 is materially cheaper)
- You want the most polished smartphone app UX (Akuvox SmartPlus or 2N Mobile Video are ahead)
