Access Control Systems for Brisbane & Gold Coast Body Corporates
Smartphone, RFID, Bluetooth, facial recognition. Building entry, basement carparks, pool/gym access, contractor scheduling — all on one Akuvox platform that integrates with the intercom you already have.
What’s included
- Smartphone unlock via SmartPlus appOne app for residents to answer the intercom, unlock the front door, open the basement gate, and grant temporary access to trades — no separate fob or key card.
- RFID fob and card readersAkuvox A02/A05/A06 readers at every restricted entry point. Issue, deactivate, and audit fob assignments centrally — no more lost-key shutdowns of the building.
- Bluetooth low-energy unlockDrive-through carpark gates that recognise resident vehicles within 5 metres without rolling down a window. Reduces idling, weather exposure, and frustration.
- Akuvox EC33 facial recognitionTouchless entry at high-traffic lobbies. Faster than fobs, more sanitary than keypads, and creates an audit trail every body corporate committee asks for at AGM.
- Akuvox NC-2 network controllerThe brain that ties intercoms, gates, doors, and lifts together. One management interface for the building manager. One source of truth for access logs.
- Visitor management with audit trailTime-bounded codes for trades, cleaners, deliveries. Photo, timestamp, and unlock log on every event — defensible at insurance claim or AGM dispute time.
Facial — One Platform
Three reasons body corporates are moving from keys to access control.
Per-unit cost is roughly the same. The reduction in operational chaos and lost-key incidents is not.
No more lost-key shutdowns
One lost key on a master-keyed building means rekeying every door — typically $4,000–$12,000. Lose a fob? Deactivate it in 30 seconds from the building manager’s phone. Issue a replacement same day.
AGM-ready audit trail
Every entry event is logged with timestamp, fob ID, photo (where facial is enabled), and door. Disputes about contractor access, after-hours entry, or pool damage become resolvable in 5 minutes.
Compliance with strata insurance
Insurers increasingly require documented access control on common property. A logged, auditable, time-bounded system reduces premium loadings and protects committee members from liability.
The six entry points that matter most.
You don’t need access control everywhere. You need it at these six points.
Front entrance lobby
Highest traffic point. Pair Akuvox front entrance station with EC33 facial reader. Residents enter touchless. Visitors call up via intercom. Trades use time-bounded codes.
Basement carpark gate
Bluetooth long-range reader recognises resident vehicles. Replaces remote controls (which get lost), keypads (which get codes shared), and gate clickers (which get cloned).
Pool and gym
RFID fob with time-of-day rules. Pool open 6am–10pm, gym open 24/7 — system enforces both. Reduces noise complaints, after-hours misuse, and insurance exposure.
Lift access (per floor)
Integrate with the lift controller so resident fobs only call the lift to their floor + common areas. Stops random visitors from getting off at the penthouse — a common complaint in luxury towers.
Bin room, mail room, package locker
Common-property storage gets misused without controls. Time-bounded fobs, audit trail of who accessed what, photo log when facial is enabled.
Plant room, lift motor room
Body corporate liability if unauthorised people get in. Restrict to building manager + named contractors. Audit trail proves due diligence at insurance claim time.
What body corporate committees ask before signing.
Do we have to replace our existing intercom?
Often no. Akuvox NC-2 controller integrates with most existing IP intercoms and can layer access control on top. If your intercom is still on legacy 2-wire analogue, we recommend an intercom upgrade first — but the access-control hardware can stage in afterwards.
What’s the per-unit cost roughly?
Smartphone + RFID at six entry points, including hardware, install, and configuration: typically $850–$1,450 per unit depending on building complexity. Facial recognition adds $40–$80 per reader location, not per unit. Final pricing confirmed at site survey.
Can residents still use a physical fob if they prefer?
Yes. The system supports smartphone, RFID, Bluetooth, and facial concurrently — residents pick their preference. Older residents typically stay on fobs; younger ones move to phone-only.
What happens when a tenant moves out?
Building manager deactivates their fob and removes their phone from the system. Takes 60 seconds. New tenant is enrolled the same way. We can also automate this via integration with strata management software for buildings managed by larger firms.
Is the audit log admissible at AGM disputes or insurance claims?
Yes. Akuvox NC-2 stores time-stamped, photo-backed entry events for 12 months minimum (configurable longer). The data is exportable as PDF for committee meetings, insurance claims, or police reports. We’ve seen disputes resolved in under an hour using the export.
Does facial recognition work in low light or with masks?
Akuvox EC33 has near-IR illumination and works in zero ambient light. Mask detection is built in — system can either deny entry, prompt for fob/code fallback, or accept (configurable per door per time-of-day). For COVID-era hygiene, we typically configure ‘mask OK at all times’ since it’s a hygienic input.
