FAQs
Apartment intercom questions, answered.
The questions strata managers, body corp committees, and building managers ask us most often.
How much does an apartment intercom replacement cost?
Per-unit pricing typically ranges from $850 (Bronze – like-for-like replacement) to $1,450 (Gold – premium IP system with smartphone access, lift integration, and resident app). Final pricing depends on building age, existing wiring, brand selection, and unit count. We provide indicative quotes after a free on-site survey.
Do you work with strata managers and body corporate committees?
Yes. The majority of our work is for body corporate committees and strata managers across Brisbane and the Gold Coast. We provide AGM-ready quotes, written scope-of-works documents, and Certificates of Currency on request, so committees can vote with full information.
How long does a typical install take?
Most apartment buildings between 20 and 100 units take 3 to 7 working days, depending on building access, riser condition, and whether wiring needs replacement. We schedule installs to minimise resident disruption and coordinate with the building manager throughout.
Which intercom brands do you install?
We are an Akuvox specialist installer. After evaluating Akuvox, 2N, and Aiphone at scale, we standardised on Akuvox because it consistently delivers the best balance of build quality, SmartPlus app integration, 2-wire retrofit capability, and per-unit value. Single-brand specialism means deeper certifications, faster installs, and more predictable post-install support.
Do you offer maintenance contracts?
Yes. We offer Bronze, Silver, and Gold maintenance contracts with SLA-backed response times (4 business hours for Gold). Contracts include tenant turnover reprogramming, scheduled preventive maintenance, and priority service calls — billed monthly per unit.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. We hold a Queensland electrical contractor licence, FULLY INSURED, and full workers compensation. Certificates of Currency naming the trading name 'Intercom Solutions' are available on request for tender submissions.
Do you replace just the front entrance, or full building systems?
Both. Many buildings start with a front-entrance station replacement and add internal monitor or app upgrades over time. We can phase a full building rollout across multiple budget cycles if your strata committee prefers staged spending.
Do you offer free site surveys?
Yes — site surveys are complimentary for buildings of 20+ units across Brisbane and the Gold Coast. We attend, document the existing system and infrastructure, and follow up with a written quote.
Can we phase the install across multiple budget cycles?
Yes. Many buildings start with the front entrance and main board, then add unit monitors or smartphone-app capability over subsequent years. We design with phasing in mind.
Do you handle resident communications during install?
We can prepare resident notice templates, FAQs, and onboarding guides for the building manager to distribute. We do not communicate with residents directly without the building's consent.
What happens if our existing wiring is unusable?
We assess this during the site survey and quote separately for any rewiring required. Most buildings allow re-use of existing 2-wire risers; some older buildings need IP cabling pulled through the riser cupboard.
Do you work outside Brisbane and the Gold Coast?
We focus exclusively on these two regions to maintain service quality and response times. For projects in Sydney, Melbourne, or further afield, we can refer trusted partners.
Can residents keep using the existing handsets after upgrade?
It depends on the system. Most modern IP intercoms replace handsets entirely, but some units integrate with retained displays. We document this in every quote.
