Where the R29C fits
- Multi-dwelling buildings prioritising touchless entry — post-COVID requirement in many strata buildings; no shared keypad surface.
- Commercial reception with VIP recognition — frequent visitors enrolled in face database; one-second entry.
- Federal-government or embassy — subject to current NDAA compliance statement verification.
- R29C-L 4G variant — sites without ethernet to the door (heritage buildings, gate entries, remote facilities).
How face enrollment works
Face data is captured at the door using the R29C touchscreen UI, or imported via Akuvox SmartPlus admin app. Each resident’s profile stores 5–10 reference images; the system continually self-trains on successful matches to handle hair colour change, beard growth, glasses, etc. Privacy: face data stays local to the door station + Akuvox Cloud (encrypted), not shared to third parties.
R29 vs X912S vs X915
- R29C — Face recognition specialist. 7″ Android. Best for: touchless-priority deployments.
- X912S — Linux, 4″ screen, vandal-rated. Best for: tough environments, lower cost.
- X915 — Android, 8″ screen, dual starlight + HDR + facial. Best for: premium residential with face support included.

FAQ
Is the R29 NDAA compliant?
Akuvox issues NDAA compliance statements per model and per period. Federal-government and high-security buyers should request the current statement from Akuvox direct before specifying.
What’s the difference between R29C, R29C-B, and R29C-L?
R29C is silver finish, R29C-B is black, R29C-L adds 4G LTE for sites without ethernet to the door. All three share the same Android + face recognition stack.
How many faces can the R29C store?
Up to 20,000 face profiles in the local database, with cloud sync via Akuvox SmartPlus for distributed sites.
What happens if face recognition fails?
Fallback layers: card, PIN, BLE proximity, QR code, and traditional intercom call to indoor monitor. No single point of failure.
